

To save money, they bring along haughty widow Mrs. The two have never before spoken-enlists her as a traveling partner. Lottie Wilkins (Josie Lawrence) is a downtrodden middle-class wife with a vaguely mystical ability to "see into people." Captivated by a newspaper ad offering a month in an Italian villa, she senses that her neighbor Rose Arbuthnot (Miranda Richardson) is equally in need of a getaway and-though Novel by Elizabeth von Armin, fails to achieve the sense of magical transformation for which it strives. But this paper-thin drama, directed by Mike Newell (DANCE WITH A STRANGER) and adapted from the 1921 Furthermore, good writing, directing and cinematography combine to make this film a visual masterpiece.ENCHANTED APRIL sets out to celebrate the liberating effects of an Italian vacation on four troubled English women-a gentle, low-budget blend of A ROOM WITH A VIEW and THELMA & LOUISE. However, ENCHANTED APRIL has a redemptive message: we should love others unconditionally without expecting anything in return. The only thing missing from this paradise is God Himself, a point worth noting since there are numerous references to our Lord in the beginning of the film. Suffice it to say that this paradise has a similar effect on both Lady Caroline and Mrs. When Rose’s husband shows up, he too reciprocates. As it turns out, Lotty’s love brings the best out of Mellersh, who discovers his own love for Lotty. However, soon Lotty invites her husband, Mellersh, to share in her happiness. Alone at first, the women relish their freedom. Fisher is preoccupied with her fond memories. A third woman, Lady Caroline, views most men as only interested in her good looks and money. Rose is also having husband problems and sees this trip as a form of escape. Unable to pay all the rent, Lotty convinces a fellow churchgoer, Rose Arbuthnot, to share the expenses.

Depressed by England’s weather and her husband who seems not to care about her, she views this as an opportunity to get away.
